A newcomer is the fastest road bike in the 2023 TOUR test. The RCR Dura-Ace Di2 from Van Rysel achieved an aero performance of 207 watts in the GST wind tunnel in Immenstaad. To be more precise, 206.6 watts at 45 km/h. This put the future workhorse of the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale team wafer-thin before the Cannondale SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod 2 and the Cube Litening Aero C:68X Race both of which were a tenth of a second behind.
At TOUR, we looked at the question of whether lightweight road bikes are still fit for the future or whether they have no chance against faster all-rounders. To find out, we tested six super-lightweight racers. The Factor stood out as the bike with the lowest weight both in the test field and throughout the year.
A few months after our test of the Roubaix Sport, the US manufacturer presented a new model series of the marathon racer - already the eighth generation. The predecessor was named the most comfortable road bike in the TOUR test thanks to its sophisticated suspension concept. As in 2022, the Roubaix Sport achieved the best comfort score (1.3) among endurance road bikes, based on the spring stiffness of the seatpost and fork. It came in just ahead of the Argon 18 Krypton (1.4) and the Canyon Endurace CFR Di2 (1.5) through.
The Cinelli has truly earned its place in our Best of Test 2023. It won us over with its high level of exclusivity. According to the traditional Italian manufacturer, only 20 examples of the special model were available worldwide, which was launched to mark Cinelli's 75th anniversary. TOUR was able to extensively test the anniversary racer based on a strikingly decorated and lightweight stainless steel frame.
With the Endurace 7, Canyon almost completely fulfils the formula of price and performance that is particularly popular among German-speaking road cyclists. It's hard to find a better road bike for less money at the moment. The excellent suspension comfort characterises the affordable marathon classic, which is even up to 1000 euros cheaper than comparable aluminium competitors.
The new Grail from Canyon became famous practically overnight - perhaps even more famous than the company would have liked. Although the second generation of the race model had yet to be officially unveiled, Carolin Schiff sensationally won the Unbound title, the unofficial gravel world championship. Four months later and shortly after the UCI title fights, Canyon finally revealed the poorly kept secret. With a total weight of just 8150 grams, the Grail CFR Di2 was the lightest gravel bike in the test period from January to December 2023.
The Specialised Diverge STR is an eye-catcher - especially its frame. In contrast to conventional diamond frames, where the top tube and seat tube are firmly connected, the Diverge STR uses a carbon and metal construction. A hydraulic shock absorber is located in the gap between the tubes, which, in combination with the suspension element on the handlebars, forms the first full-suspension road bike from Specialized. This earns the Diverge STR the title of the most comfortable gravel bike in the 2023 TOUR test.
