At € 1499, the Endurace 7 from Koblenz was not only the cheapest road bike in the 2023 TOUR test, it is also chronically sold out. At the time of the test in July, Canyon announced that the marathon road bike would return to the online shop in September. Just a few weeks later, however, the aluminium model was only available in frame size XL, for road cyclists over 1.97 metres. Versions in medium sizes should be available again from February.
Price plus performance = Canyon: The Endurace 7 almost completely fulfils this formula, which is particularly popular among German-speaking road cyclists. Because there is hardly a better bike for less money at the moment. The affordable marathon classic is characterised above all by its excellent suspension comfort - and is up to 1000 euros cheaper than comparable aluminium competitors.
What a difference a small part can make: The Koblenz-based company gives the Endurace 7 a carbon seatpost that noticeably smoothes out bumps in the road surface. The fact that the Canyon doesn't get a better individual score for suspension comfort is due to the unyielding carbon fork. However, the standard tyres, 30 millimetres wide at the front and 32 millimetres at the rear, compensate for this - at least at the rear. You can even fit tyres up to 35 millimetres wide.
The emphatically upright riding position emphasises the long-distance character of the bike, on the top tube of which a small bag for a mini-tool or smartphone can be mounted. Although the frame and wheels are among the lighter models, at a total of 9.2 kilograms, fast rides are not the Canyon's strong point. The Koblenz-based company has the aerodynamically optimised and lighter CFR and CF SLX versions in its range. However, the top versions do not come close to the favourable sales price.
