For many road cyclists, winter, bad weather or a busy schedule are reasons to move their training indoors. At the same time, switching to the smart trainer should take as little time as possible. This is exactly where the Tacx Neo 2T with Zwift Cog and Click comes in. The system comes with Zwift Cog pre-installed and is therefore ready for use in virtual training environments.
The Zwift Cog replaces the traditional bike cassette on the trainer. According to the manufacturer, it is compatible with almost all bikes that have an 8- to 13-speed derailleur. This means that, for many bikes, there is no need to change the cassette or fit an additional one.
In addition to the Tacx Neo 2T, the package includes a front wheel stand, an installation kit, a mains adapter, the Zwift Cog and the Zwift Click. This means the trainer should be ready for use in no time. According to Garmin, no complicated set-up or calibration is required.
The Zwift Click handles gear changes in the virtual environment. It operates wirelessly and silently. Whilst riding, users can not only change virtual gears, but also steer, navigate menus and award so-called ‘Ride Ons’ in Zwift.
The virtual gear-changing system is designed to make the riding experience more like real-world conditions on the road. Changing gears from the handlebars can be particularly handy when tackling varying gradients, doing interval training or taking part in virtual races. The Tacx Neo 2T is also compatible with Zwift and ROUVY. Compatibility and the availability of individual features may vary depending on the platform and region.
Reliable measurements are crucial for performance-based training. According to the technical specifications, the smart trainer measures power and cadence with an accuracy of up to one per cent. The figures are displayed in real time on the relevant platforms whilst you are riding.
If you enable automatic uploads, you can then analyse the session in the Garmin Connect app. This makes the trainer suitable not only for virtual rides, but also for structured training plans and reviewing your own exertion levels afterwards.
A race mode is also available for virtual races and group rides on Zwift. This is designed to enable faster data transmission. The trainer operates quietly, whilst its sturdy construction ensures it remains stable.
Anyone wishing to further enhance their indoor cycling experience can add to the Tacx Neo 2T with separately available accessories. The Tacx Neo Motion Plates allow for multi-directional movement and are designed to create a more natural riding experience.
In Zwift, the trainer can also simulate various road surfaces, including cobblestones and wooden planks. With the Tacx Alpine – which is also available separately – you can simulate climbs of up to 25 per cent and descents of up to minus ten per cent. Integrated steering functions enhance the riding experience.
