The Dolomites Cycling Tour is one of the most traditional cycling events in Austria. The 38th edition brings ambitious amateur cyclists to the East Tyrolean Alps. What began as a regional tour of the Alps has developed into an international cycling festival.
The SuperGiroDolomiti is the toughest challenge of the event. The 218-kilometre route leads across Carinthia to Friuli in Italy and climbs more than 5,000 metres in altitude. Monte Zoncolan is the highlight of the route. The climb gained worldwide fame through numerous Giro d'Italia stages and is considered one of the most feared mountains in international cycling. The Dolomites Cycling Tour offers a shorter alternative. The route also starts in Lienz and leads over the Gailberg Pass and Kartitscher Sattel. In total, the 112 kilometres offer around 1,870 metres of elevation gain. Participants in the SuperGiroDolomiti receive a finisher jersey. The Dolomites Cycling Tour honours its participants with a functional shirt. Registration is possible at www.dolomitensport.at. The start is currently possible from 85 euros.
Francesco Moser made several appearances at the Tour of the Dolomites. The cycling legend left his mark on the event, as did numerous former professionals and top international athletes. Felix Gall already showed his talent as a teenager at the Tour of the Dolomites. Today, the East Tyrolean Tour de France rider is regarded as an international figurehead of Austrian professional cycling. Double Olympic champion Benjamin Karl discovered his passion for cycling at the Tour of the Dolomites and the SuperGiroDolomiti. The snowboarder discovered his enthusiasm for long distances and alpine challenges through these events. His sporting orientation outside of his successful snowboarding career began here.
The Tour of Austria, possible future Giro d'Italia stages and the return of the Tour of the Alps in 2028 make East Tyrol a cycling region. The WorldTour team Astana Qazaqstan is setting up its preparation camp for the Tour de France in Lienz. The TOUR Transalp will also use the mountains in East Tyrol in 2026.
