Cycling events for amateur cyclists on closed roads are rare - two dates in the Roadclassic series in the neighbouring Czech Republic are therefore particularly attractive:
3 August Klinovec
The Ore Mountains are divided between Saxony and Bohemia - but the highest point is on the Czech side: Klinovec towers over the Fichtelberg by around 30 metres and gives the event its name. The route covers 105 kilometres through the picturesque landscape of the Ore Mountains and includes some steep climbs. The route adds up to a total of 2100 metres in altitude. The event starts and finishes near Klinovec (Keilberg), the highest peak in the Ore Mountains. Ore Mountains.
One special feature is the flexibility of the format: participants can either race or take to the course without time pressure. The latter has the advantage that you can enjoy the refreshments. There are five refreshment stations along the 106 kilometres - espresso is served in porcelain cups at two of them. Enjoyment is emphasised at the Roadclassic events - the organisers cite the L'Eroica as a role model in this respect. Participant photos are included in the entry fee. It is also possible to hire a racing bike. Registration for the Roadclassics event is still possible until the day before the race. The road closure applies to all those who adhere to the time limit. The start number costs 130 euros.
14.9. Ještěd 2024
The third event of the year in the Roadclassic series takes place on one of the most famous mountains in the Czech Republic, Ještěd. The race covers a distance of 107 kilometres and includes several climbs totalling 2350 metres in altitude. From Liberec, the peloton heads towards Bedřichov and the Jizera Mountains. The final climb is the pointed Ještěd, which towers above the north Bohemian metropolis.
As with all events in the Roadclassics series, it is possible to start in the race category or without timekeeping. The road closure applies within a fixed time frame. The starting price is the equivalent of around 130 euros.
