The Gravel Ride & Race Bern is taking place for the eighth time - but this year for the first time at a new event site at the University of Teacher Education (PH) in Länggasse. With significantly more space for exhibitors, food trucks, participants and guests, the event is developing into a major festival for the booming sport of gravel cycling. All signs point to a new record number of participants - after 1210 registrations in 2024. The mix of sport, festival and family programme has attracted hundreds of riders every year since 2018.

New location promotes festival character

Around 3000 square metres are available on the new event site. 40 brands present their products, while numerous food trucks provide culinary variety. In addition to the legendary roller slide, a skills course and a bouncy castle, families and children can now also enjoy a cool pump track.

The four formats of the Gravel Ride & Race Bern

  • the Gravel Race: the classic over 50 kilometres for ambitious and sporty riders
  • the Gravel RideThe pleasure format over 25 kilometres, without timing
  • the VCS Family Ride over 10 kilometres with quiz stations on the subject of cycling, mobility & the environment
  • and the Kids Gravelwhere the youngest can get their first taste of racing on a closed-off track.

Living inclusion - handbikes ride the original route

The event is setting a special example in terms of inclusion: after testing for the first time last year whether the route can also be tackled by handbikes, the format is now a fixed part of the 2025 programme. This opens up the Gravel Ride & Race Bern even more to all sports enthusiasts. The tried-and-tested route will once again lead through the Bremgartenwald forest to Eymatt, on to Frauenkappelen and back to the Länggasse neighbourhood via Wohlei - with the start and finish directly at the new event site. Christian Rocha, initiator of the event, emphasises: "The move to a new location was important for the development of the event, but also brings with it new challenges. Nevertheless, we are convinced that the effort will be more than worth it. There are signs of another record number of participants - in all formats. This shows that Gravel continues to enjoy growing popularity. We are proud to be one of the pioneers in this sport. But thanks also go to the city of Bern and our partners, who stand by our side and make the event possible in the first place."
