The Everesting Event 2025 on the Rossfeldstraße near Berchtesgaden promises a combination of sporting challenge and charitable cause. On 21 June 2025, cycling enthusiasts will have the opportunity to complete the nine-kilometre northern ascent of the Rossfeld as many times as they like and collect donations for the Kinderkrebshilfe Berchtesgadener Land und Traunstein e.V. children's cancer charity and the Förderverein Bergwacht Ramsau e.V. mountain rescue association. The event, which was organised under the motto "Epic. Free. Limitless.", is designed as an unofficial training ride with a donation character and does not require prior registration. The idea comes from the Berchtesgaden Bicycle Association. Participants are free to decide how often they want to complete the route, which has 810 metres of elevation gain and an average gradient of 9 percent.
The Rossfeld north ascent begins in Berchtesgaden/Oberau at an altitude of 730 metres and leads to the finish at Hennenköpfel at 1540 metres. With a length of nine kilometres and 810 metres in altitude per ascent, the route offers a demanding challenge for all participants. The maximum gradient is 12 per cent. For an officially recognised Everesting, cyclists have to complete the route eleven times in ascent and descent, which corresponds to a total distance of around 198 kilometres and 8900 metres in altitude. The organisers emphasise that participation is at your own risk and that the road is not closed to traffic. The rules of the road traffic regulations apply.
The Everesting day starts at 5:00 am with a meeting point at the Auerwirt for all those planning a complete Everesting with 8848 metres of altitude. Other participants can start at any time, but the organisers recommend arriving at the Auerwirt on the hour. Catering will be provided in the finish area at the Hennenköpfl from around 9:00 to 17:00. All proceeds from voluntary donations will go directly to support the children's cancer charity and the mountain rescue service. After the sporting challenge, the event invites you to an after-event party in the old wine cellar of the Fruchthaus Faes in Berchtesgaden from 19:00. Live music from the band "Zamm Gspuit" will provide entertainment from 20:00. A 50 cent donation will be made from every drink sold.
Everesting 2025 follows the principle "Everyone gives what they want. Every euro counts!". In addition to the participants, sponsors and external donors can also take part. A donation box will be set up in the finish area and donations can also be transferred directly to the supported organisations. Kinderkrebshilfe Berchtesgadener Land und Traunstein e.V. and Förderverein Bergwacht Ramsau e.V. will benefit from the money raised. A donation receipt can be issued for donations of 300 euros or more. The organisers emphasise that the ride is not run commercially and that all donations go directly to the organisations mentioned.
The idea of Everesting on the Rossfeld was born out of personal concern. Martin Nock, founding member of the Berchtesgaden Bicycle Association, initiated the "metres in altitude for children's cancer charity" campaign after a close friend was confronted with his child's cancer diagnosis. The first Everesting event on the Rossfeld took place in 2021 and raised 14,500 euros in donations for the children's cancer charity. After a two-year break, further editions followed in 2023 and 2024, with the number of participants, finishers and donations growing with each event. According to the organisers, a total of over 60,000 euros in donations have already been handed over.
The organisers expressly point out that this is an unofficial training ride. Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Wearing a helmet is obligatory and the organisers recommend that you check your bike for road safety beforehand. Due to the steep gradient and tight bends of the Rossfeldstraße, a controlled riding style and good braking technique are essential on the descent. Participants are asked to inform themselves about the current weather conditions and to wear appropriate clothing. If you have any health concerns, the organisers advise you to consult a doctor beforehand. Basic first aid knowledge is considered important.
