SENA has expanded its range of communication solutions for cyclists with several new products. The technology specialist is presenting various systems based on Bluetooth and Mesh Intercom technology, which are designed to enable cyclists to communicate safely and networked while riding. The highlight of the portfolio is the new BiKom 20, an ultra-lightweight communication device specially developed for cyclists. With its helmets, SENA also offers S1 and U1 solutions with a fully integrated communication system. The products are aimed at different target groups - from ambitious racing cyclists and mountain bikers to commuters and leisure cyclists. According to the manufacturer, the communication systems are particularly useful in demanding terrain when mountain biking, on family bike tours in road traffic, during group training or when travelling by bike. The technology should not only offer comfort, but also contribute to greater safety, better orientation and a stronger sense of community. Team Picnic PostNL is one of the professional athletes already using the BiKom 20.

BiKom 20: Ultralight communication system with flexible mounting

At 20 grams, the new BiKom 20 is a particularly lightweight communication solution that is characterised by its compact and minimalist design. The system has an open-ear headset design that leaves the ears free so as not to restrict the driver's perception of their surroundings. According to the manufacturer, this should ensure maximum safety. The BiKom 20 has a flexible mounting design: It can be attached to the strap of almost any helmet with a strap width of up to 18 millimetres or alternatively to a cap or other equipment using a clip supplied. Technically, the BiKom 20 offers Mesh Intercom 3.0 technology with a range of up to 800 metres for direct communication between users. According to the manufacturer, an almost unlimited number of users can connect in Open Mesh mode, with six selectable channels to ensure interference-free group communication. In addition, the Bluetooth function enables pairing with a smartphone for hands-free calls, navigation and app use without additional accessories. The Advanced Noise Control technology is designed to filter out wind and ambient noise, while the HD intercom system with foldable microphone can be muted if required.

S1: Integrated communication system for road and gravel bikers

The S1 (>> available here) is a 300 gram bike helmet with an integrated communication system that was specially developed for road and gravel bike riders. The U1 (>> available here) is a 400 gram lightweight helmet aimed specifically at commuters and e-bike riders. It has a fully integrated intercom system with a range of up to 600 metres and offers nine channels for communicating with other users. The talk time is specified as up to 11 hours. According to the manufacturer, a dual antenna system ensures a stable connection even in densely built-up areas. Like the other SENA products, the U1 can also be connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth, allowing phone calls, navigation or music playback directly via the integrated speakers. These are positioned so that they sit open over the ear, which means that traffic noise can still be heard - an important aspect for road safety. The Advanced Noise Control technology is also designed to ensure clear HD audio quality in the U1 by filtering out disruptive wind and ambient noise. The helmet is available in two sizes (M and L) and can be fitted with either a transparent grey or transparent orange visor.

Mesh technology for seamless communication

The mesh technology used by SENA is based on Bluetooth and enables dynamic communication between multiple devices. The system is designed to provide a seamless, reliable and self-healing connection. According to the manufacturer, a virtually unlimited number of participants can connect and communicate on a total of nine channels. The direct range is specified as up to 900 metres, with several participants it can be increased to a maximum of 1200 metres. An important aspect of the SENA systems is that, unlike conventional communication solutions, they work openly via loudspeakers and without headphones. This is intended to maintain a 360-degree sound perception of the surroundings, which should increase safety. Communication between the devices works independently of the smartphone, so no mobile phone, provider or data volume is required. The HD intercom system is designed to ensure the best sound quality, while the Advanced Noise Control technology suppresses ambient noise such as strong wind and ensures clear and distinct transmission to the other party. As an option, the products can also be paired with a smartphone and used for navigation or phone calls.
