The system consists of two audio devices that attach to the helmet straps and are designed to be compatible with most helmets and goggles. Each unit weighs 19 grams and has a simple two-button interface, with the left side responsible for group communication and the right side for music playback and call control. According to the manufacturer, the system offers a battery life of up to eleven hours and is protected against splash water with an IP54 rating. The price for the VeloVox system in Europe is 160 euros.
A key feature of the VeloVox system is the open hearing concept, which, unlike conventional headphones, does not restrict the perception of the surroundings. This design is intended to ensure that cyclists can continue to hear traffic noises while using the system, which increases road safety. In contrast to in-ear headphones, which are not legal in many countries while riding, VeloVox's open-ear design enables legally compliant use in road traffic. Despite this open design, the manufacturer promises clear audio quality thanks to advanced wind and noise cancellation. The system is equipped with a special microphone system designed to reduce wind noise and other disruptive factors to ensure clear voice transmission even at higher speeds or in adverse weather conditions. The system is operated via intuitive controls, with the left-hand side responsible for communication and the right-hand side for audio functions.
A special feature of the VeloVox system is its integration with selected Shimano components. The system can be controlled via Shimano Di2 shifters and Shimano STEPS e-bike systems, which should make it easier to operate while riding. This integration allows cyclists to use the communication system without having to take their hands off the handlebars, which increases both comfort and safety. The system is controlled via the Cardo Connect app, which will be available both in the App Store and on Google Play. Users can use this app to make various settings and customise the system to their individual needs. The system is mounted discreetly on the helmet straps and is said to be compatible with most helmets and goggles available on the market. The devices come with a two-year warranty, which emphasises the manufacturer's confidence in the longevity of the product.
Peter Duynslaeger, Managing Director of Lazer, emphasises the practical benefits of the new system: "VeloVox is all about enhancing the riding experience - connecting cyclists without distractions and delivering sound where and when it matters. Whether for team strategy, safety or to share the joy of riding, this is a tool that adapts to how real riders ride." Asaf Schnitzer, Head of Outdoor Business at Cardo, adds: "It's a great opportunity for us to partner with Lazer and bring our group communication solution to the cycling world. With audio designed specifically for cycling, an open-ear design for safer riding and seamless group intercom, VeloVox will take riding to a new level - making it a much more connected and social experience."
