Wahoo Fitness is today introducing a three-tier subscription model for its app. The new structure comprises the free Base version, Core for €4.99 per month, and Pro for €17.99 per month. A new feature is the Three-Dimensional Pace Matrix for runners, which tracks three speed-based performance metrics. The app is designed to translate sports science findings into practical training advice and to link data from cycling and running.

Wahoo Fitness has unveiled an updated version of its training app. According to the manufacturer, the software draws on sports science insights gained through collaboration with top athletes and coaches. The platform is designed to help endurance athletes better understand the links between training, recovery and performance.

The app is based on technologies such as Four-Dimensional Power (4DP) for cyclists and the new Three-Dimensional Pace (3DP) Matrix for runners. The 4DP system assesses a cyclist’s strengths using four key performance metrics. The new 3DP profile identifies three speed-based performance metrics: threshold pace, maximum aerobic pace and anaerobic capacity. These metrics are designed to help runners understand their individual performance characteristics and training needs.

Three-Dimensional Pace & COROS Integration

The 3DP Matrix works on a similar principle to the established 4DP system used in cycling. Wahoo has implemented integration with COROS, which is designed to enable a connected running experience across both platforms. The app offers strength, yoga, flexibility, recovery and mental training sessions via the SYSTM platform. These sessions are designed to complement endurance performance.

Three subscription tiers with different feature sets

With this update, Wahoo is introducing a new subscription model. It is divided into three tiers. ‘Base’ is free and included with compatible Wahoo devices. This version offers workout tracking, app integration, route planning, live location tracking and sharing, as well as connectivity between products and sensors. Users can pair devices, synchronise activities and access their full training data.

Core costs €4.99 per month or €49.99 per year. This tier includes all the Base features plus advanced performance metrics and training insights. The app shows how training sessions affect your fitness and training progress. It includes performance analyses, tracking of training load and fitness levels, an indoor and outdoor workout library, as well as active tracking and a history feature.

Pro is aimed at athletes with more extensive training requirements. The subscription costs €17.99 per month or €179.99 per year. In addition to all the Core features, Pro offers unlimited access to the SYSTM app, daily workout suggestions, structured training plans, video workouts, and strength, yoga and mobility sessions. Recovery and mental training round off the package.

Availability and Platform Development

The new subscription model is now available in the Wahoo app. CEO Gareth Joyce explains that the app now translates complex sports science insights into simple, actionable advice. This is designed to help athletes understand their training sessions, track their progress and make decisions to help them achieve their training goals. Wahoo provides athletes with the same in-house sports science that top athletes rely on.

Loves all kinds of bikes - and merging with nature. Believes that disc brakes are much safer today than they were 15 years ago and thinks he has helped with his brake and pad tests. However, the trained vehicle technology engineer very much regrets that the bicycle industry is orientating itself on what he considers to be the wrong ideals of the car industry. At BIKE, he corrects, produces and organises digital content on the website.
