With its eye-catching design, the S-Aero from Ekoi is aimed at sprinters, time trialists and all high-speed enthusiasts. The French brand combines an XXL Zeiss lens with integrated spoilers for aerodynamic advantages. For 167 euros, the Pro model promises performance in the upper price segment.
The French manufacturer Ekoi specialises in cycling clothing and equips professional teams. With the S-Aero, the brand presents a model that has been specifically developed for "high speed" - a pro model for professionals as well as amateur athletes with high demands on their own equipment. The innovative design is based on a large Zeiss lens of the latest generation, combined with small spoilers on the lower left and right of the visor, which promise aerodynamic advantages and give the goggles their characteristic appearance.
The category 3 lens is suitable for strong sunlight and offers maximum wind protection. Ekoi offers the S-Aero in five different tints to suit different light conditions. Special features include the length-adjustable temples and the flexible nose bridge, which are designed to allow individual customisation. At just under 167 euros, the glasses are in the mid to upper price segment, although Ekoi generally works with discount campaigns.
At 38 grams, the Ekoi S-Aero is slightly heavier than the average for comparable road bike goggles. This is due to the huge Zeiss lens measuring 5.5 x 20 centimetres and its small spoilers. These small aerodynamic elements at the bottom left and right of the lens characterise its striking appearance and, according to the manufacturer, should provide a measurable aerodynamic advantage - an interesting feature for time trial-oriented riders. In practice, the large lens impresses with excellent wind protection right into the corner of the eye and its tint provides good contrast in different light conditions. However, there are noticeable weaknesses in terms of comfort: Our testers rated the fit as comparatively tight due to the indented position of the temples; the nose pad, which is only slightly flexible and slim, should fit the individual nose shape exactly. If the bridge of the nose is wider, unpleasant pressure points occur, especially on longer rides. On a positive note, it is possible to individually adjust the length of the temples - a feature that not every manufacturer offers. The goggles are available with five different visors, offering flexibility for different weather conditions and areas of use. All in all, these are goggles with a strong protective function and individual design, but they are picky when it comes to fit and do not flatter every head shape.
Minus: Limited adaptability, tight fit, pressure points with wider nasal bridge
