French manufacturer Van Rysel has unveiled a Signature Edition for its sprinter Olav Kooij. The front of the helmet features an ultra-reflective finish with glitter particles, designed to maximise reflectivity. The aim is to enable lead-out riders Daan Hoole and Cees Bol, as well as sports director Mark Renshaw, to identify the Dutch rider in a fraction of a second.
Over the final ten kilometres of a race, the peloton reaches speeds of over 65 km/h. During this phase, it becomes difficult for team-mates and sports directors to spot their own rider amongst the mass of 150 riders. Kooij explains that timing and positioning are crucial in the sprint. The special livery is designed to enable his lead-out riders to spot him in an instant when the situation gets dicey. Renshaw describes the helmet as a tactical performance tool that could provide the decisive advantage.
The exclusive design is featured on three helmet models. The RCR-F Mips focuses on aerodynamics for bunch sprints and costs 119.99 euros. The RCR-R Mips offers versatility and ventilation for mountain stages at a price of 89.99 euros >> available here. Designed for time trials VAN RYSEL the RCR-X 2, which is available for 249.99 euros.
