On the tarmac and in the crash test, it becomes clear which helmets offer the greatest safety reserves. Seven manufacturers, from Abus to Uvex, each sent an inexpensive and a top model at prices between 100 and 300 euros into the test race. One realisation up front: all helmets are much better than the standard requires - but some offer a small safety advantage, regardless of price. Here: the Uvex Surge Aero Mips and the Uvex Rise in a test duel.

Slightly wider shape, whereby the circumferences fit as specified; top in both safety ratings; minimally less cooling even without the aero cover; weighs 353 grams including the cover, but is more flexible in changing weather conditions.

All-round fit, slightly narrower than the more expensive model, only available in two sizes; comparatively heavy without rotation protection; the adjustment system works well with ratchet fastening, but is unsuitable for braids; an earlier test sample performed better in the drop test.
