On the tarmac and in the crash test, it becomes clear which helmets offer the greatest safety reserves. Seven manufacturers, from Abus to Uvex, each sent an inexpensive and a top model at prices between 100 and 300 euros into the test race. One realisation up front: all helmets are much better than the standard requires - but some offer a small safety advantage, regardless of price. Here: the POC Ventral Mips and the POC Omne Air Mips.

The most expensive helmet in the test wins the competition in terms of grades; all-round fit, fits normally, size M still fits a head circumference of 58 centimetres; offers the best protection against concussion and the second best shock absorption; in cool temperatures it is almost draughty under the airy shell.

All-round fit, normal size, size M still fits heads with a circumference of 58 centimetres; the padding with Mips Air Node is slightly firmer compared to the more expensive model; the somewhat fiddly height adjustment is annoying with both helmets, but it works; the protection against a possible concussion is equivalent, whereas the helmet shell can absorb less impact energy.
