On the tarmac and in the crash test, it becomes clear which helmets offer the greatest safety reserves. Seven manufacturers, from Abus to Uvex, each sent an inexpensive and a top model at prices between 100 and 300 euros into the test race. One realisation up front: all the helmets are much better than the standard requires - but some offer a small safety advantage, regardless of price. Here: the Giro Eclipse Spherical and the Giro Cielo Mips.

Good all-round fit; runs small in size M, from 58 centimetres head circumference the head ring presses on the forehead; the Mips Spherical system with the two helmet shells is exclusive to Giro; it protects well against concussions, the shock absorption is good average; the adjustment in width and height works well, a pigtail fits through comfortably, the width adjustment wheel is quite small.

Giro Cielo Mips

All-round fit, normal size; the padding in the Mips cage sits nice and tight, the height and width adjustment works well, but there is little room for a slim pigtail; the very well-made helmet is slightly heavier than average and is available in seven colour variants; the ventilation works very well in every head position.
