Sweet Protection's product range includes helmets, goggles and technical clothing for skiing/snowboarding, cycling and paddling. The company was founded in 2000 by a group of enthusiastic skiers, snowboarders, kayakers and cyclists in Trysil, a mountain village in Østerdalen, Norway. From the beginning, their goal was to ensure the safety of athletes and inspire them to push their own limits, be it at a World Cup ski race or on a weekend adventure.
The two new Falconer road bike helmets are among the top products from Sweet Protection. Both helmets fulfil two standards for bicycle helmets, CPSC 1203 and EN 1078, while previous models were available in different versions for the European and American markets. Helmets that were only EN 1078 certified were not available in the USA, as the requirements there are slightly different.
The two Falconer racing bike helmets from Sweet Protection utilise 2Vi helmet technology, which ensures safety and comfort. The helmet consists of three main components:
The design has enabled the manufacturer to improve the protective effect of the helmet at both low and high impact speeds. The outer shell is stiffer and at the same time more elastic than before and offers improved impact performance throughout. Weight has been reduced without reducing the protective effect. Underneath the outer layer is a complex EPS construction that has a shock-absorbing effect. The internal ribbed structure works with a low-friction MIPS shell to reduce rotational forces that can occur in the event of a fall. Inside the helmet is the Mips shell, which is laminated to the lining. Sweet Protection promises the best possible comfort with the lowest possible additional weight.
The two new helmets also feature a new adjustment system with an opening at the back for long hair or braids. The temperature on the head is regulated by the so-called STACC ventilation system. This stands for Superficial Temporal Arteries Cooling Channel. The Aero helmet has two fewer ventilation openings than the Falconer 2Vi Mips. There is a replaceable front pad in the forehead area, which is designed to absorb the sweat that occurs there.
Naturally, the Norwegian manufacturer has designed the helmet so that it can be combined with its own goggles. The goggle holder has also been thought of.
The two new Falconer helmets from Sweet Protection are currently being tested by TOUR. The results will be published in TOUR magazine 6/23.
The Falconer 2Vi Mips helmet is lighter and better ventilated than the aero version. It has two additional ventilation openings for dynamic air circulation. Compared to its predecessor, the fit and aerodynamics are said to be better.
The Falconer Aero 2Vi Mips aero racing helmet was developed in collaboration with the Uno-X Pro Cycling Team. The magnetic aerocovers are nothing new for Sweet Protections aero helmets, but they are still extremely practical for switching between aerodynamics and temperature regulation. Bonus of the Aerocovers: they also protect against rain and bad weather. They can be removed and stowed in the jersey pocket when cycling in the height of summer or during strenuous efforts - the STACC ventilation system now kicks in and ensures temperature regulation.
