Compact, versatile, family-friendly: Decathlon launches the new EXPL 900 2-in-1 children’s trailer: With the EXPL 900 trailer Decathlon presents a versatile companion for families who enjoy getting out and about together. The new child trailer can be used with a bike or converted into a pushchair in just a few simple steps – and its main focus is on one thing above all else: maximum practicality for everyday use.
A key feature is the ingenious folding system. When folded, the trailer measures just 68 × 48 × 48 centimetres and has a volume of 157 litres – compact enough for a car boot or a corner of your home. “Many trailers are simply too bulky for everyday use,” says product manager Jeremy. “Our aim was to develop a model that is easy to store and makes life noticeably easier for parents.”
Weighing 13.5 kilograms (excluding accessories), the EXPL 900 remains comparatively light. Fully equipped with wheels, a bag and a pull bar, it weighs 19 kilograms. It can carry one or two children aged six months and over, up to a height of 114 centimetres. The maximum total weight is 59 kilograms, of which 36 kilograms may be accounted for by the children.
Inside, Decathlon has opted for a combination of protection and comfort. The 58-centimetre-wide cabin offers a generous 270-degree field of vision thanks to three windows. Shock absorbers smooth out bumps, whilst padded seats with integrated headrests and a 5-point harness system ensure safety. The seat covers are removable and washable.
Product designer Thomas describes the concept as follows: “Robust on the outside like a pushchair, cosy on the inside like a cocoon.” In fact, the interior is more like a little haven of comfort: plenty of space, a panoramic view and a child-friendly design.
Practical features round off the overall package: a mosquito net and rain cover provide protection from the elements, whilst a stowable sunshade provides shade. Four internal compartments provide space for snacks and toys, whilst ventilation openings at the front and rear ensure a supply of fresh air. Reflectors improve visibility in traffic, and a foot-operated parking brake ensures the pushchair stands securely.
The EXPL 900 is compatible with both conventional bicycles and e-bikes and is designed for speeds of up to 25 km/h. The coupling supplied is suitable for quick-release and solid axles with a diameter of less than 12 millimetres; a special solution is required for thru-axles.
The trailer is just as versatile off the bike: two buggy wheels are included, transforming it into a pushchair in no time at all. In addition, a 43-litre pannier provides storage space and can be easily attached thanks to a click-in system. If you want to carry more, you can secure additional equipment such as tents or blankets to the roof.
Decathlon is already planning further accessories to expand the range of uses: a baby carrycot for children under six months is in the pipeline, and a large front wheel is also due to be launched in early 2027 to enable the pushchair to be used whilst jogging.
The EXPL 900 trailer will be launched in April 2026 and will online at Decathlon, as well as being available in selected branches. The price is 494.99 euros.
