Mudguards: Restrap launches mudguards for Switch Rack and gravel bikes

The component, which weighs 78 grams, is made of polypropylene and features the contour pattern typical of Restrap. To fit it, you must first ensure that the screw holes on the underside of the bracket are accessible. The mudguard is then secured using two M5 screws, spacers and a 4-millimetre Allen key. Restrap specifies a maximum tightening torque of 5 newton-metres.

As regards compatibility, the manufacturer specifies at least one 29-inch wheel-tyre combination with a tyre width of 2.6 inches. According to Restrap, whether even wider tyres will fit depends, amongst other things, on the frame geometry and rim width. The mudguard is designed to remain permanently attached to the rack, making it ideal for cyclists who use the Switch Rack regularly in changeable conditions. The price is 19.99 euros.

A compact solution for gravel bikes

The range is complemented by the Gravel Fork Mudguard. This universally mountable front mudguard is designed for gravel bikes with limited clearance between the fork crown, tyre and down tube. It is positioned beneath the fork crown or the fork legs and secured to the fork legs using the cable ties supplied.

The Gravel Fork Mudguard weighs 26 grams and is also made of polypropylene. Restrap recommends applying a protective film to the frame if necessary to prevent any scuff marks caused by the cable ties. Its purpose is not to provide complete protection against rainwater, but to reduce splashing and dirt around the face, down tube and headset.

This model also features the brand’s signature contour design and, according to the manufacturer, is made in the UK. It costs 13.99 euros.

For training and everyday cycling in wet conditions

Both new products feature a simple, lightweight design rather than large mudguard systems. This makes them particularly suitable for bikes that are intended to remain as minimalist as possible in summer, but which require a limited amount of additional splash protection when riding in the rain.
