Stevens Taniwha

The “Taniwha” model from Stevens, launched in 2023, is a versatile bicycle that stands out for its robust build and high-quality components. It is available at a price of 849 EUR and offers good value for money.

The Taniwha’s frame is made from 6061 DB aluminium, giving the bike a robust yet lightweight structure. Weighing 14 kg and with a maximum load capacity of 115 kg, the bike is suitable for both everyday use and more demanding tours.

The braking system features Tektro HD-T275 brake levers and calipers at both the front and rear. The brake discs are by Shimano, measuring 180 mm at the front and 160 mm at the rear, ensuring reliable braking performance. The gear system consists of a Sunrace RDM91 with 18 speeds, controlled by Sunrace DLM903 shifters and supported by a Sunrace FDM966 front derailleur. This ensures precise gear changes and a wide range of gear ratios.

The SR Suntour X1 LOR-R fork, with 100 mm of travel, provides comfortable suspension and enhances riding comfort on uneven terrain. The bottom bracket is a 73 mm BSA model, and the crankset varies depending on wheel size: For 27.5" wheels, the Oxygen Scorpo crankset is used, whilst for 29" wheels, the Shimano FC-MT210-2 with 36-22 teeth is fitted. The cassette is a SunRace CSM98, 9-speed.

The handlebars and stem are both of the Oxygen Driver type, with the handlebars measuring 740 mm in width, which provides good control and stability. The headset is a STEVENS AH 1 1/8". The rims are Oxygen RM-M19, measuring 19 x 584, and the tyres are Schwalbe Smart Sam Active-Line, also available in sizes 27.5" (57-584) or 29" (57-622), depending on the model variant.

The hubs are by Shimano, with the HB-TX505 at the front and the FH-TX505-8 at the rear. The saddle is an Oxygen Raceline, mounted on an Oxygen Driver seatpost, which ensures additional comfort on longer rides. The pedals are ATB Pro Reflex, which offer good grip.
