Lapierre SPICY 4.9

The "SPICY 4.9" model from Lapierre, released in 2021, is a high-quality mountain bike designed specifically for demanding riders. The bike’s frame is made from SPICY FIT SUPREME 6 material and, with 170 mm of travel on the 27.5-inch version and 160 mm on the 29-inch version, provides a solid foundation for off-road adventures. The bike is fitted with a PRESSFIT bottom bracket and features a BOOST axle and a METRIC shock mount, which provide additional stability.

The SPICY 4.9’s braking system consists of SHIMANO Deore M6100/6120 four-piston disc brakes, which ensure reliable braking performance. Gear changes are handled by a SHIMANO DEORE 12-speed rear derailleur (RD M6100), which enables precise gear changes. The FOX 38 FLOAT PERFORMANCE BOOST fork, with 170 mm of travel on a 29-inch bike, ensures excellent damping and control on rough terrain, whilst the FOX VAN R rear shock provides additional suspension comfort.

The bike is fitted with NW 91K pedals and features a SHIMANO BBMT800 Pressfit bottom bracket. The crankset consists of a SHIMANO DEORE FCM 511 with 12 speeds and a 32-tooth chainring configuration, which varies between 170 mm (S, M, L) and 175 mm (XL). The cassette is a Shimano Deore 12-speed with a range of 10 to 51 teeth (CSM6100), whilst the drivetrain is also from SHIMANO Deore.

The SPICY 4.9’s handlebars are LAPIERRE 6061DB with a diameter of 31.8 mm, the width of which varies depending on frame size: 760 mm with a rise of 15 mm for sizes S and M, and 780 mm with a rise of 30 mm for sizes L and XL. The grips are LAPIERRE ‘FIT’ grips, which are also available in two sizes to suit the different frame sizes. The stem is made from fully CNC-machined aluminium and varies in length from 35 mm (S) to 45 mm (L/XL).

The headset is an FSA ORBIT ZERO STACK, whilst the hubs are SHIMANO MT400 models, which offer excellent smoothness. The saddle is a LAPIERRE CRMO by Velo, which provides comfort on long rides. The seatpost is a LAPIERRE DROPPER by JD with a travel of 130 mm for size S and 150 mm for sizes M, L and XL, allowing for optimal adaptation to the terrain. Overall, the Lapierre SPICY 4.9 offers an impressive combination of components and design, making it an ideal companion for challenging mountain bike tours.
