GIANT Fathom 2

The "Fathom 2" model from GIANT, released in 2023, is a versatile mountain bike that stands out for its high-quality components and robust construction. Priced at 1399 EUR, it offers excellent value for money for ambitious riders.

The Fathom 2’s frame is made from AluxX SL aluminium and features a 12x148mm axle spacing, which provides additional stability and stiffness. The maximum tyre clearance is 2.5 inches, and the maximum chainring size is 32T, providing ample scope for a variety of terrain conditions.

Braking and control are provided by Tektro HD-M275 brakes with 180mm discs and the matching brake levers. The drivetrain is a Shimano Deore M5120 Shadow+ 10-speed system, operated via Shimano Deore M4100 shifters. This combination ensures precise and reliable gear changes.

The GIANT Crest 34 RCL fork, with 130mm of travel and Boost 15x110mm, provides excellent damping and control on rough terrain. The bottom bracket is a Shimano SM BB 52 Threaded with a width of 73mm. The crankset is a Shimano Deore M5100 with a 30T chainring and a chainline of 52mm. The cassette is a Shimano Deore M4100 with an 11–46T range, and the drivetrain is completed by a KMC X-10 chain.

The handlebars are GIANT Contact TR35 with a 20 mm rise, complemented by GIANT Sole-O grips and a GIANT Contact SL 35 stem. The rims are GIANT AM 29, tubeless-ready with an internal width of 30 mm, fitted with Maxxis Minion DHF 2.5WT EXO TR tyres at the front and Maxxis Aggressor 2.5WT EXO TR tyres at the rear. The bike is supplied tubeless, which provides better puncture protection.

The hubs are RD02F at the front and ED260-R at the rear, connected by Sapim spokes. The saddle is a GIANT Romero, mounted on a GIANT Contact Switch Vario seatpost with a diameter of 30.9 mm and various adjustment ranges (S–M: 125 mm, L: 150 mm, XL: 170 mm).

In addition, the Fathom 2 comes with a tubeless kit comprising sealant, valves, tyre levers, a valve core remover and instructions. Pedals are not included, so the rider can choose their preferred pedals themselves.
