GIANT Fathom 1

The “Fathom 1” model from GIANT, released in 2023, is a versatile mountain bike characterised by its high-quality components and robust construction. The price for this model is 1,699 EUR.

The Fathom 1’s frame is made from AluxX SL aluminium and, with a width of 12x148mm, provides a stable base for challenging trails. The maximum tyre clearance is 2.5 inches, which offers sufficient space for wide tyres that provide extra grip on rough terrain. The maximum chainring size is 32T.

For the brakes, GIANT relies on a reliable Shimano system. Shimano BR-MT420 (4-piston) brakes are fitted at the front, whilst Shimano BR-MT410 brakes with 180 mm discs are fitted at the rear. The brake levers are also from Shimano – model BL-MT401 – and ensure precise and controlled braking performance.

The Fathom 1 is fitted with a 12-speed SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain, operated via SRAM SX Eagle shifters. This combination offers a wide gear range and smooth gear changes. The fork is a GIANT Crest 34 SL RCL with 130 mm of travel and Boost 15x110 mm, which ensures optimum damping and control.

The bottom bracket is a SRAM SX PowerSpline Threaded with a width of 73 mm. The crankset is also from SRAM, the SX Eagle model, and is fitted with a 30T chainring and a chainline of 52 mm. The SRAM SX Eagle cassette offers a gear range of 11–50T.

The handlebars are GIANT Contact TR35 with a 20 mm rise, whilst the grips are the GIANT Sole-O model. The stem is a GIANT Contact SL 35, which ensures stable steering. The rims are GIANT AM 29, Tubeless Ready, with an internal width of 30 mm, allowing for the fitting of wider tyres. The tyres are Maxxis Minion DHF 2.5WT EXO and Maxxis Aggressor 2.5WT EXO, both tubeless-ready and offering excellent grip and stability.

The hubs are RD02F at the front and ED260-R at the rear, and the spokes are from Sapim, ensuring a durable and robust wheelset. The saddle is a GIANT Romero, mounted on a GIANT Contact Switch Vario seatpost with a diameter of 30.9 mm and an adjustment range of 125 mm (S–M), 150 mm (L) and 170 mm (XL) respectively.

The bike also comes with a tubeless kit containing tubeless fluid, valves, tyre levers, a valve core remover and instructions. Pedals are not included.

Overall, the 2023 GIANT Fathom 1 offers a balanced combination of stability, control and versatility at a fair price.
