Löffler Rainchaser rain jacket

The new Rainchaser rain jacket from Löffler is cut close to the body. For our slim test rider with a flat, broad chest, the jacket (size 48, slim fit) leaves little room for manoeuvre in an upright position; in the bent racing bike position, it feels as if it has been tailored to fit. However, it pinches noticeably under the armpits even in this position (try it on!). The jacket, which is labelled as waterproof and made in Austria, can also withstand heavy showers; elasticated, close-fitting cuffs and the collar offer good protection against draughts. The overcoat has a high-quality finish, with impressive details such as a back pocket with zip and a fabric chimney under the shoulder belt for letting off steam. The small, stowable jacket in a women's cut is available in the colours "Dark Blue" and "Titan", while the men's model is only available in the latter colour.

Wahoo Elemnt Roam GPS computer

The latest Wahoo Elemnt Roam bears the abbreviation V3, which marks the latest development stage of the popular GPS computer and is said to bring many improvements. The 110 gram route and training companion now offers 64 GB of memory and, according to the manufacturer, a battery life of up to 25 hours - a big plus compared to its predecessor. The 2.8-inch touch display impresses with its brilliant colour display and responds reliably even in the rain or when wearing gloves thanks to the button control. Nevertheless, in strong sunlight, the display is sometimes difficult to read in automatic mode - a manual brightness control would be desirable. The new menu navigation with the "Ready-to-Ride" screen is a success, it appears tidy and intuitive to use. However, the new Wahoo app is required for setup instead of the previous Elemnt app. The - theoretically possible - pairing with a Garmin radar failed in the test; we were unable to determine whether this was due to Wahoo or Garmin. Overall, a strong device without serious weaknesses, but with room for improvement in the details.

Commuter jeans from Maloja

How do you like this article?

If you type the word "commuter" into your mobile device, autocorrect constantly tries to get you to correct the sequence of letters to "computer". Yet the English term for commuter is already relatively familiar. And special commuter jeans for cycling are not really new either. Apart from that: The new EmeraldM model from Maloja proves its worth in this task and looks good too. The stretchy denim material allows you to pedal freely, while seams that have been moved forward from the crotch are designed to minimise chafing in the saddle. The reflective "MAL" and "OJA" lettering on the back of the leg cuffs is another functional detail. Incidentally, the women's version of the trousers is labelled "VELO" and "LOVE". Why isn't this granted to the men's world? After all, a small, embroidered bicycle is emblazoned on the back pocket of both sexes, signalling their affiliation to the commuter community. The black, slightly pre-washed fabric is comfortable against the skin and gives the impression of wearing comfortable jogging trousers rather than hard-wearing jeans. EmeraldM certainly has what it takes to become a favourite pair of trousers!

Fidlock saddle bag

The magnetic closure is Fidlock's trademark; the drinking bottles with matching holder are well-known and proven. New to the range is the "Saddle Bag" with magnetic "Pinclip", which we tried out in size S with a volume of 400 millilitres (size M: 600 millilitres). The saddle and roll closure can be snapped into place with one hand and as if by magic, the bag can be attached to and removed from the saddle in no time at all. We found opening the roll-top fastener fiddly, but overall the lightweight and robust small carrier weighing just under 140 grams is impressive. It is waterproof and keeps the contents dry even in constant rain.

Specialised S-Works Torch Remco road shoe

The new Specialized S-Works Torch Remco is a statement in terms of lightweight construction and comfort. Weighing just 356 grams per pair (in size 44), it feels almost shoeless - ideal for ambitious cyclists. The upper shoe made from lightweight mesh TPU material is breathable yet robust. Inside, a sock-like construction encloses the foot, without a classic tongue. The fit is impressive: the wide forefoot area offers sufficient space, even in the heat and on long rides, so that your toes don't fall asleep. The non-slip heel hold is excellent. The sizes are regular. The combination of a Boa twist fastener and Velcro strips over the toes ensures a precise fit. On the downside, the tight sock shaft without a shoehorn makes getting into the shoe a little difficult. Nevertheless, the Torch Remco combines low weight, high rigidity and excellent comfort - a high-end shoe for anyone looking for uncompromising performance.

  • Price: 600 Euro
  • Weight: 356 grammes (size 44)

+ light, space for the toes, support, power transmission
- slightly tight at the instep
