Cycling is more pleasant with light luggage. Nevertheless, it is important to be well equipped and prepared for all eventualities on an extensive bikepacking tour. Especially on longer routes, it is an advantage to stow your luggage and tools in a space-saving and comfortable way. Osprey recently introduced the new Escapist on-bike panniers for this purpose. This new range of bikepacking bags is ideal for your next bikepacking adventure, whether it's a one-day or multi-day tour.
The new Escapist On-Bike series offers a selection of five different panniers, all of which are weatherproof and can be combined with each other. They can be attached quickly and easily to the appropriate places on the bike, be it the top tube, handlebars or saddle. All bags are characterised by their flexible and space-saving attachment. This makes bikepacking a great, uncomplicated experience. Let's take a look at what the various panniers are designed for and what makes them special.
Bikepacking bags have to fulfil a variety of needs. For example, they should keep your mobile phone and repair kit within easy reach and be able to store your clothes neatly. The bags from Osprey can be attached to the bike either individually or all together in the right places. This means you don't have to take a rucksack with you for equipment such as a sleeping mat or a change of clothes, the weight of which puts pressure on your back.
The new bikepacking bags from Osprey are made from water-repellent material and feature HF-welded seams. They are also equipped with glove-friendly zips for easier access. Here is an overview of the different panniers:
The frame bag can be attached directly under the top tube using various fastening points with Velcro straps. The bag is available in three different sizes to make optimum use of the available space, regardless of the frame shape and size. Waterproof zips on both sides allow quick and easy access to the equipment.
The Wedge bagThanks to its compact dimensions, the can be attached to a wide variety of bike frames and also to different positions on a road or gravel bike. Several variable attachment points with Velcro straps help to prevent scratches on the frame. The waterproof zips on both sides allow access to the contents.
Small accessories such as a smartphone, an energy bar or small tools can be stowed in the top tube bag. It is attached to the top tube directly in front of the stem. This is practical because you can access it immediately. If necessary, even while riding. The small bag even has a cable outlet and is made of water-repellent material and equipped with waterproof zips.
The Handlebar bag offers plenty of storage space at the front. And if it needs to be more compact, the air can escape through the valve when the bag is compressed. Thanks to its waterproof properties, moisture stays outside and does not get into the bag. Reflective fastening straps also ensure improved visibility on the road. A strap over the stem prevents the bag from tipping downwards. The handlebar bag can be attached to most regular handlebars - including, of course, drop bars on road bikes or gravel bikes.
The saddle bag from the Escapist On-Bike series, also known colloquially as the "arse rocket", is equipped with a valve to allow air to escape and is completely waterproof. This makes sense as it is exposed to particularly heavy water spray directly above the rear tyre. The saddle bag is compatible with fixed seat posts and can also be attached to Vario seat posts with retrofitted sleeves. A practical feature is that the bag can be completely packed before it is pushed into the attachment.
The prices for the new Osprey Escapist on-bike bags vary between 40 and 100 euros, depending on the model. This puts them in the price range of other bike bags or bikepacking bags, whereby the handlebar bag in particular is pleasantly affordable compared to more complex bikepacking handlebar bags. The new Escapist on-bike panniers from Osprey are available now.
