1960: The tumbling hoop – my introduction to cycling
uvex entered the world of cycling in the 1960s with the crash helmet. A padded ring with three leather straps protected cyclists’ heads – a strap fastened under the chin held the ring in place. Unlike the cycling helmets that later came onto the market, the crash ring did not yet feature a rigid plastic shell. The reasons why racing cyclists chose to wear the crash ring are obvious: it had to be light, airy and unobtrusive. At that time, little thought was given to aerodynamics.
2026: New top-of-the-range Aero model – uvex ultimate DNAero MIPS
Lightweight construction, maximum comfort and excellent ventilation are – alongside protection – still the most important criteria for a cycling helmet today – and, on top of that, the best possible aerodynamics. This is where the brand-new uvex ultimate DNAero MIPS, launched for summer 2026, comes in: its design is based on extensive CFD simulations to minimise air resistance as much as possible. With its Flowskin surface structure, the helmet goes one step further: inspired by a shark’s skin, the technology reduces cross-turbulence and prevents airflow separation – for even better performance on the bike.

In addition, the BOA Fit System allows for precise adjustment, enabling the helmet to be tailored to the individual head shape with millimetre accuracy.
