Tool
- Allen key and torque wrench
- Small screwdriver
Auxiliary materials
- Bearing grease
- Carbon assembly paste
- cloth
- If necessary, cleaning petrol or acetone
TIPS
- Bearing clearance: If the bearing keeps loosening despite correct clamping, this may be due to a clamping cone inside the fork that is slipping upwards. Carbon assembly paste in the steerer tube and on the outer surface of the cone mechanism can help here; also grease the inner surfaces of the mechanism that slide against each other.
- Noises: Steering bearings often crack due to insufficient lubrication. However, grease should only be applied carefully and specifically between the metal components of the bearing, the clamping or between the contact surfaces of aluminium spacers.
the contact surfaces of aluminium spacers. Grease on the carbon fork steerer tube is taboo. Cables that are dry or even rusted in the stops are often the cause. Low-viscosity lubricating oil can help here.
- Selection: The choice of stems is huge. We recommend choosing handlebars and stems from one manufacturer and from one model range. Then you can be sure that they are compatible and have been tested together.
