Difficulty level: for talented hobby mechanics
Tool
- Hexagon socket spanner
- Slotted and Phillips screwdrivers
- Torque spanner with bits
Auxiliary materials
- Carbon assembly paste
- Bearing grease
TIPS
- Function test: Once the basic setting of the rear derailleur and front derailleur has been established, you must check their function. Shift the largest and smallest gears carefully until you are sure of their function. Shift from the large to the small cog several times at different crank speeds when the largest sprocket is on the rear wheel. The other way round - smallest sprocket at the rear and shifting from the small to the large chainring - must also work without dropping the chain.
- Test drive: No matter how neatly you set it up, there is no way around a test drive. Test the shift function away from traffic before venturing out onto the road.
- Control: Check the screws of the cable fastenings and the fastening of the rear derailleur and front derailleur with a torque spanner according to the specifications of your gear manufacturer after 100 to 300 km of riding, then every 2,000 km.
