Brake harder

Brakes with more bite? A TOUR comparison of brakes between 45 and 850 euros has shown: Braking performance depends largely on the pads. The rubber with which Shimano's ten-speed Dura-Ace is already equipped as standard stands out particularly well. On aluminium rims, this stopper enables powerful and durable braking performance even with low manual force, which you can also get on your bike. As only the front brake can transmit high braking power on a road bike due to the centre of gravity, it is sufficient to retrofit a set of brake pads and linings. An additional plus: The brake pads can be adjusted precisely at an angle to the rim, which was not the case with older Shimano series. A set of Dura-Ace brake shoes with pads of type "R55 C2" (note the labelling on the back) costs around 38 euros and fits all Shimano and Shimano-compatible brakes (e.g. Mavic, WCW, Xtreme; but not Campa brake bodies). The pads alone cost around seven euros and also fit the brake pads of Ultegra and 105 brakes.
