Degree of difficulty: for experienced screwdrivers

You will need:

  • Excipients: Wooden board, spray oil
  • Tool: Hexagon socket, punch, rubber mallet, Phillips and slotted screwdriver

GOOD TO KNOW

TIP:
The ratchet mechanism of Shimano's shift brake lever is very well sealed off from the outside. Lubricating the lever through the openings is only possible with a thin spray of oil.

TIP:
Due to design changes during series production, the disassembly of some levers may differ slightly from that shown here. Exploded views and exact descriptions of the available spare parts can be found onwww.paul-lange.de/ products/shimano/support.

TIP:
Disassemble the levers step by step and take a close look at the position of the parts before dismantling them. Lay the parts down in sequence to make it easier to reassemble them later.

DISASSEMBLY OF THE LEVER, REPLACEMENT OF THE SPRINGS AND BEARINGS

1. pull the rubber grip on the top of the lever removed from the handlebars slightly forwards and upwards so that the rubber slides out of the fastening groove and then backwards off the lever armature.

THE MOST IMPORTANT ASSEMBLY STEPS

How do you like this article?
1. place the special tubular tool (normally included in the original box) on the long end of the spring that protrudes in the direction of winding and returns the brake lever after braking.

REPLACEMENT OF THE HANDLE CAPS

1. pull the brake lever to expose a Phillips head screw. Unscrew it completely.
