Sitting as comfortably as possible and being able to pedal efficiently - that is the result of an optimal riding position on a road bike. Handlebars, saddle and pedalling system are the three points that you can change. We'll show you how.

Sitting as comfortably as possible and being able to pedal efficiently - that is the result of an optimal riding position on a road bike. Handlebars, saddle and pedalling system are the three points that you can change. We'll show you how.

Degree of difficulty: for talented hobby mechanics

You will need:

  • Tool: Hexagon socket, torque spanner and bits, spirit level
  • Excipients: Carbon assembly paste

TIP 1:
Note the marking for the maximum extension height of the seat post: It must not be visible and must therefore remain inside the seat tube.

TIP 2:
If the adjustment options on the handlebars are not sufficient, most stems can be turned round. So-called flip-flop stems therefore offer two different handlebar heights.

TIP 3:
Stems are available in different angles. The greater the angle, the greater the difference when you turn the stem round.

TIP 4:
Check the bolts after 200 to 400 kilometres of driving and then every 2,000 kilometres.

1. adjust the preload in the pedal very easily. On almost all pedals you will find small hexagon socket screws and arrows with plus and minus markings or small windows with pointers. If everything fits later, you can adjust the locking mechanism again to make it harder.

ADJUSTING PEDALS AND CLEATS

ADJUST SADDLE POSITION

1. loosen the screws at the front of the stem cover by two to three turns. It should now be possible to turn the handlebars without resistance. Align the handlebars so that the handlebar ends are parallel to the ground or pointing slightly downwards. The upper edges of the brake levers should be levelled and never point downwards.
