Level of difficulty:
- for talented hobby mechanics
Tool:
- Bowden cable pliers, side cutter, 5mm Allen key
Auxiliary materials:
- Silicone oil spray, grease, Tape, rigid wire, thread, plastic tubes, outer sheath connectors, Bowden cables
TIPS:
- Patience:
Never pull outer casings, plastic tubes or similar out of the frame prematurely. First get an overview of how the cables run in and on the frame.
- Tension adjuster:
When routing the cables, bear in mind subsequent adjustment. For front derailleurs, rear derailleurs and (time trial) brakes that do not have integrated adjusters, you must provide an adjustment mechanism in the free-running Bowden cable. The area below the handlebars is suitable.
- Outer shells:
Tubes laid in the frame by the manufacturer for the outer covers are a stroke of luck. Insert a clean inner cable into the outer casing and leave it in the frame when you pull out the outer casing. Then slide the new outer cover over the inner cable and into the inside. Then replace the inner cable. Silicone oil spray makes installation easier.
- Negative pressure:
A worthwhile attempt to get a guide aid into the frame: Insert a thin woollen thread into the pull opening and suck at the exit opening with a powerful hoover. If you seal all other frame openings well, you may succeed in sucking in the thread.
