No trifling matter: small mistakes when adjusting the saddle and seatpost can have fatal consequences. TOUR shows you how to get it right.

Level of difficulty:
- for everyone

Tool:
- Hexagon socket spanner, torque spanner and bits, possibly open-end or ring spanner, spirit level

Auxiliary materials:
- Carbon assembly paste, grease

TIPS:
- Withdrawal limit:
Observe the marking for the maximum extension height or minimum insertion depth of the seat post. The lower end of the seat post should be below the top tube.

- Assembly paste:
If at least one component (frame or seat post or both) is made of carbon, do not use grease in the clamping area but special carbon assembly paste.

- Corrosion protection:
If both the seat post and frame are made of metal, apply grease to the clamping area. This will prevent the seat post from corroding.

- Control:
Check the bolts after 100 to 300 kilometres of driving and then every 2,000 kilometres.

- Note the position:
If you remove the seat post to pack the bike, mark the seat height with adhesive tape.
