Installing the bottom bracket: This is how it works

You will need

  • Tool: Specific tool for bottom bracket, hexagon socket, torque spanner
  • Auxiliary means: Assembly grease, possibly bearing grease, cloth

Tips for installing the crank and bottom bracket

TIP 1: Please note that you will have to change the position of the front derailleur when replacing a crank with classic gear ratios with one with smaller chainrings. Campagnolo offers a special derailleur that is designed to ensure better shifting behaviour.

TIP 2: Let us help you install the crank and bottom bracket! On a brand new frame, the bottom bracket shell must be milled flat and the thread inside cut. Leave this to the specialist dealer and his special tools.

TIP 3: Check the tightening torque of the screw connections with a torque spanner after 200 to 400 kilometres of driving and then every 2000 to 3000 kilometres.

Prologue

1. pay attention to the type of bottom bracket when buying; it depends on the bottom bracket thread. Two versions are commonly used, which you can distinguish externally by the width of the housing: The 68 millimetre wide BSC version is the most common. Designation in inches: 1.370 x 24 tpi. The right-hand shell has a left-hand thread.
