Cleaning your road bike: The most important tips for cleaning

Printing error
Do not wash your bike with a high-pressure cleaner. The sharp jet of water not only makes short work of the dirt, it also penetrates the bearing seals. Once water is in the bearing, it can no longer drain off; the grease is dissolved and the balls and raceways are gradually destroyed.

Fat solvent
The chain also suffers from treatment with a steam jet or special chain cleaning machines and degreasers when cleaning road bikes. The grease inside the joints is dissolved by the cleaning fluid and the dirt is not completely rinsed out. New oil or grease cannot flow in sufficiently even when the chain is dry.

Useless
Cleaning oil is virtually unsuitable for racing bikes, as it cannot remove salt residues caused by dried sweat and leaked electrolyte drinks.

Water drain
Not every frame and wheel has a hole from which water can drain. If necessary, remove the tyres and seat post when cleaning the road bike so that everything can dry completely.

Inspection tour
Check the tyres all round for stones or shards that have penetrated. In the case of larger cuts, you must protect the tyre fabric from the inside. Remove deposits from the brake pads.
