Is it true that carbon frames require less maintenance than metal frames because they don't corrode?

Unfortunately, this is not the case. Frames made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic also need surface protection and regular care. The reasons for this are the comparatively poor adhesion of the paint to the carbon fibre tubes and metal attachment parts, such as cable stops, adjusting screws, seat post clamps or front derailleur mounts. To prevent the paint from rubbing off or chipping, you should mask off vulnerable areas with clear film before the first ride: the top of the right-hand chainstay and places where Bowden cables can rub. After masking, treat the entire frame with hard wax. This closes small gaps between carbon and metal parts and prevents aggressive sweat from attacking.
