Is it perhaps better not to try out such an eye-catching device in places where mocking after-work cyclists do their laps in packs? That's definitely better! But even for the toddler, who is travelling along a lonely side road with training wheels and a skating mother, the flat "Walser" is a provocation: "Is that a real racing bike?" he asks. Of course it is, "one that you race on?" This question can also be answered in the affirmative. Unreservedly.
Machines like Walser's idiosyncratic handiwork are pure competition machines, designed only to achieve top speeds in a position that is difficult to sustain over the long term. The saddle sits more than 25 centimetres above the armrests. This makes the grip position on the outer bar ends more aggressive than the lower handlebar position on a normal road bike. After a few minutes in the recumbent position, the neck becomes tense and muscles in the torso and legs that were previously not needed on the bike capitulate.
