So you've overcome your inner bastard, donned your winter armour, bravely plunged into the darkness and freezing cold - and then, just as there is finally a balance between body vapour and clouds of mist, just as it starts to feel good, the air hisses out of the tyre. Kneeling down at the side of the road, removing the bike, pulling off the soggy tyre with stiff fingers and putting in a new tube - that's the last thing you want to experience. Punctures are always stupid. But in winter they are terrible. That's why a good winter tyre for road bikes is above all a puncture-proof tyre. A carefree tyre that won't win you any races, but will protect you as well as possible from punctures.
