Road bike tyres have been getting wider and wider for years. 25 millimetres is the new standard. The wider tyres cushion better than 23-millimetre tyres with adjusted pressure, roll just as easily or even better; they feel safer when leaning and roll more comfortably than narrower tyres. Many marathon racing bikes now even have 28 millimetre wide tyres, which offer even better suspension. And: even with a low tyre pressure of around 5.5 bar, the wide tyres roll faster than the classic 23 mm tyres with 7.5 bar.
In our experience, 25 millimetre wide tubeless tyres are the minimum required to leave the tarmac with road bikes, at least in sections.
