Winter tyres are mandatory on cars. For road bikes, there is currently only one tyre that at least looks like a car winter tyre: Vittoria's Rubino Pro Endurance has the sawtooth tread pattern that is so typical of winter tyres.

The lavish rubber coatings slow the tyres down a little - but not as much as you might fear. The difference to top tyres is around ten watts at 35 km/h, so the all-weather tyres still roll quite well. The riding impressions of the thick tyres range from agile and comfortable (Vredestein) to sluggish and wooden (Vittoria).

We tested the following tyres:

  • Bontrager All Weather 3 28
  • GP 4 Season 28 Black Edition
  • Pirelli Cinturato 28 TLR
  • Schwalbe Durano DD 28
  • Vittoria Rubino Pro Endurance 28
  • Vredestein Fortezza Senso Xtreme 28

Vredestein and Schwalbe achieve the best mix of all properties. They share the test victory.
