Italian tyre manufacturer Vittoria is launching an update to its special time trial tyre. The Corsa Pro Speed is said to be even faster than its predecessor, the Corsa Speed, which is available in the tubeless version from TOUR measured as the fastest road bike tyre to date has been realised. The press release mentions a five per cent reduction in rolling resistance. The weight has also been reduced, although the saving of two per cent is rather marginal.
The tyre was already tested by professionals last season; Jonas Vingegaard is also said to have ridden it in the Tour de France time trial. The eventual overall winner dominated the battle against the clock on the 16th stage.
In addition to these figures, the Italians emphasise that the grip in dry and wet conditions has been improved, which should lead to better control in fast corners. The tyre is still built on a finely woven cotton carcass with 320 TPI, which is said to be partly responsible for the low weight, speed and grip, as well as for particularly smooth rolling behaviour. The tread has also been redesigned, giving the Corsa Pro Speed a wider, smooth tread, while the grooves on the shoulders are now spaced more closely together.
Another innovation concerns the available tyre widths: in addition to the previously available 24 and 26 millimetres, there is now also a version with a width of 28 millimetres. Only this is also compatible with hookless rims. The Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed is now on sale and costs 94.95 euros list price, regardless of the width.
