Continental is expanding its Terra series with the new Terra Adventure gravel tyre. The tyre is based on the design of cross-country MTB tyres and is intended to offer maximum grip with low rolling resistance. It is available in widths from 45 to 55 millimetres and is optimised for demanding terrain.

With the Terra Adventure, Continental presents a new gravel tyre aimed at riders who are looking for adventures off the beaten track. The Terra Adventure expands the tyre manufacturer's existing Terra series with a particularly off-road-capable model. According to Continental, the new tyre is designed for extreme gravel tours and combines the best of gravel and cross-country MTB tyres. With its aggressive tread pattern, the Terra Adventure aims to offer maximum grip with low rolling resistance. The new tyre complements Continental's Terra series, which previously included the Terra Hardpack, Terra Speed and Terra Trail models.

With the Terra Adventure, Continental now wants to offer a solution for gravel bikers who place particularly high demands on grip, comfort and safety in extreme terrain. At the same time, the tyre should offer low rolling resistance and good puncture protection for longer off-road tours. According to Continental, the tyre shows its strengths particularly on loose surfaces and mud.

A test ride in Tuscany had everything to offer: Dirt tracks, mud, loose surfaces, natural single trails and more. A 45 millimetre tyre was fitted to the test bike, which always gave me a secure feeling. I could have reduced the tyre pressure for more comfort.

Profile inspired by cross-country MTBs

The profile of the Terra Adventure is based on Continental's cross-country MTB tyres. It has reinforced, angled shoulder lugs which, according to the manufacturer, are designed to provide cornering grip and support on sloping terrain. The lugs in the centre of the tyre are optimised for safe braking and good rolling characteristics on various surfaces. The open tread also has good self-cleaning properties, as a first ride test suggests. Statements from professional gravel racers Rosa Köser and Paige Onweller, who sometimes combine a gravel tyre with an MTB tyre depending on the surface, show that the move towards cross-country MTB tyres is a good one.

Continentals gravel tyre range

With the new Adventure tyre, the Continental Terra series consists of a combination of four different tyres.

  • Terra Hardpack: Solid surface
  • Terra Speed: Light, loose gravel
  • Terra Trail: rough gravel, natural trails
  • Terra Adventure: Challenging off-road terrain

Technology for grip and puncture protection

Continental equips the Terra Adventure with the company's own Grip Compound, which is intended to provide improved damping and traction. The tyre is tubeless-ready and compatible with hookless rims. It also has reinforcements on the sidewalls and in the tread to increase puncture resistance. The aim of the Terra Adventure was to achieve a balanced ratio of rolling resistance and off-road performance.

Widths and applications

The Terra Adventure is available in three different widths. According to Continental, the 45 millimetre version is designed for off-road speed. The widest version with 55 millimetres is particularly suitable for long distances and maximum comfort. A 50-millimetre version is positioned in between. The weight of the tyres also varies depending on the width. The narrowest version weighs 540 grams, the widest 730 grams.

The tyre widths offered by the Terra Adventure fit many current gravel bikes and confirm the current trend towards wider tyres. Gravel bikes that have been around for a few years can already reach their limits with 45 millimetre wide tyres.

The tyre is available in two colour variants, black and with tanwall.
