To mark the upcoming Tour de France, Continental is unveiling the Limited Edition 2026, an exclusive set of tyres comprising the aerodynamically optimised Aero 111 as the front tyre and the Grand Prix 5000 S TR as a rear tyre.

The Aero 111 for the front comes in a 29-millimetre width, whilst the GP 5000 S TR for the rear comes in a 30-millimetre width. Both models feature transparent sidewalls and an exclusive Tour de France design, available exclusively as part of this special edition. This marks the first time ever that the Aero 111 has been available in this classic look.

Aerodynamic advantages

Its distinctive tread pattern reduces aerodynamic drag in crosswinds whilst enhancing the sailing effect. TOUR has already tested the tyre in a wind tunnel. The conclusion from the measurements: “In all tests, the aero tyre outperforms the standard 5000 series tyre. The aero profile delays or prevents the airflow from separating from the wheel when subjected to oblique airflow. On some rims, the front wheel is even propelled by cross-flow when the Aero tyre is fitted. The greatest qualitative differences occur at low speeds (where cross-flow is also more likely). Naturally, greater power savings can be achieved at higher speeds; on average, the savings provided by the front tyre amount to between 1 and 2.5 watts. However, in specific instances with particularly oblique airflow, savings of ten watts or more are also possible.”

Tried and tested: rubber compound and puncture protection

Like the standard version of the Aero 111, the limited-edition model also features Continental’s BlackChili rubber compound and the Vectran breaker for puncture protection. Both tyres are tubeless-ready and hookless-compatible.

The tyre set will also be on display during the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes. Conti is supplying tyres to the following teams: Groupama-FDJ United (men), UAE Team Emirates-XRG and UAE Team ADQ, Movistar (women and men), Bahrain Victorious, Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale and Uno-X Mobility (women and men).
