Like the expensive model (TOUR-Test 5/2011->), the entry-level version also has the characteristic tear-off edges (comb tail) at the ends of the tube profiles; the specially designed rear brake behind the bottom bracket has also been adopted. The frame therefore looks almost like a high-end model, apart from the slightly larger frontal area. The reference measurement with Zipp 808 wheels shows that it has considerable aero potential; here a jump of a whopping 13 watts to a good 301 watts at 45 km/h is achieved. The expensive frame probably forced Trek to economise on the equipment. This can be seen in the very simple wheels, but also in the compact cranks, which are unsuitable for a time trial bike. The riding stability of the 7.2 is significantly higher than that of the 9.9, which favours stronger riders.
