John Degenkolb not only rides his bike fast but also sets the tone musically in his teams. His best-of is now available on the TOUR Spotify account

Road cycling and music simply belong together. Whether motivating songs for roller training or relaxing sounds after training or competition: the right music makes every moment better - and the athlete more efficient. A recent study found that oxygen consumption is reduced by seven per cent when training with music. In the ergometer test, up to 15 per cent better performance was measured when music was playing.

Every month we present on our Spotify account presents a new playlist of well-known faces from the world of road cycling.

This month: John Degenkolb

2019 was not a perfect year for the classics specialist in terms of results. Just one victory at the Tour de la Provence and two second places at Eschborn-Frankfurt and Gent-Wevelgem - the 2015 Paris-Roubaix winner certainly had other ideas. Nevertheless, the 30-year-old from Frankfurt is always in a good mood. Also because he was the designated team DJ in the Trek-Segafredo team. His top ten includes cycling classics by Kraftwerk (Degenkolb has been friends with Kraftwerk band member Florian Schneider for years) as well as plenty of German and American rap and surprising excursions into football music culture.

You can find all of Dege's songs in full length in our exclusive Degenkolb playlist. All you need is a free Spotify account to listen to the pros' favourite songs. Hardcore fans are best off subscribing to the "TOUR Magazine" account on Spotify and never miss a playlist again.
