If you're aiming for a big Alpine marathon or even a stage race like the Transalp as the highlight of the season, you should also do some compact altitude metre training beforehand - at a mountain training camp. Especially if there are no "real" mountains in your home training area, this gives you a real boost, because you can only really do what you have practised. But your form also benefits from the measured overload that comes with many hours of training over a compact weekend.
SHORT AND SHORT
What's the best way to practise mountain riding? By riding in the mountains! Short mountain training camps of three days or more are great for improving your climbing performance and giving your fitness a strong boost. The preferred training intensity here is the GA2 range. The aim is to complete a compact amount of altitude metres. A good base is a prerequisite for this type of training.
