With the HRM 600, Garmin is launching a new heart rate chest strap for ambitious cyclists. New features: running metrics, activity recording and a rechargeable battery with a long runtime. In addition, the HRM 600 strap without sensor is now machine washable.

Topics in this article

The Garmin HRM 600 is aimed at performance-orientated athletes who value precise training data. The chest strap transmits exact heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV) values to compatible Garmin smartwatches, bike computers, fitness devices and apps. This should enable athletes to organise and analyse their training more effectively. A key innovation of the HRM 600 is the extended running metrics. In conjunction with a current Garmin Forerunner smartwatch, such as the 970 model, the sensor records additional parameters such as running economy and speed loss on contact with the ground. This data should enable runners to analyse their running style in more detail and make targeted improvements. The HRM 600 also records proven running dynamics such as stride length, vertical movement and ground contact time.

Wide range of applications

A practical new feature is the HRM 600's integrated activity recording. For sports where no smartwatch is worn, the chest strap stores the training data directly in the sensor. After training, this data can then be synchronised with the Garmin Connect app and evaluated. This should enable seamless recording of all activities. The Garmin HRM 600 is available in two sizes and can be easily adjusted to ensure an optimal fit. After training, the sensor can be separated from the strap so that the textile strap can be cleaned in the washing machine. This should improve the hygiene and longevity of the product.

Features and operation

Garmin has also equipped the HRM 600 with a rechargeable battery which, according to the manufacturer, should last up to two months. This not only saves costs for replacement batteries, but is also more environmentally friendly. The operation of the sensor has also been optimised. The HRM 600 can be activated and paired with the desired device at the touch of a button. An integrated LED display provides information on the status of the sensor, for example whether it is ready for use or whether the battery needs to be charged. These functions are designed to make everyday training easier.

It should also be possible to use it with fitness devices and training apps from third-party providers, provided they support the ANT+ or Bluetooth standard. The chest strap is suitable for various sports such as running, cycling, swimming or strength training. Endurance athletes in particular, who want to analyse their performance in detail, could benefit from the extended measurement functions.
