Reason enough to take on the Bonaigua - even if it's not easy to fit into a one-day tour. This is probably one of the reasons why the pass has not made it into the ranks of the classics, even though it is located in the Eldorado of passes around the French spa town of Bagnères-de-Luchon.
Unlike most of the main ridge passes in the Pyrenees, its entire summit section lies on Spanish territory, as the Spanish border stretches northwards in the Val d'Aran. Dozens of small lakes around the pass bear witness to the abundance of water in the region. Endless long straights on both sides of the pass characterise the ascent.
