Pilgrimage village: protected by a castle, the medieval town of Castrojeriz lies in the arid Castilian plateau
Since the early Middle Ages, pilgrims have been travelling through the north of Spain to the tomb of the Apostle St. James in Santiago de Compostela. Two TOUR reporters followed their route - as exotic travellers on road bikes. 740 kilometres over green mountains and windy plateaus, seven days through rain and heat. A sporting challenge or a spiritual exercise? (TOUR 5/2007)

The imaginary string on the main route of the Camino de Santiago stretches for around 800 kilometres: from the Spanish-French border in the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela. It is the "Camino Francés", along which people of many faiths have been walking for more than a thousand years. What the faithful need several weeks to do on foot, we want to do in seven days on narrow asphalt roads: 740 kilometres and 10,000 metres in altitude, past a hundred churches and five cathedrals.

You can find these routes in the PDF download:
