Andalusia

Almost as much rain falls in the Sierra de Grazalema as on the Zugspitze - fortunately most of it in winter.
One of the best cycling regions in Spain lies far to the south-west of the Iberian Peninsula: Andalusia offers magnificent mountain passes on karstic heights, dense forests, whitewashed villages - and can make cyclists break out in a sweat early in the year. With GPS data for download.

Spring in southern Spain is actually known for its mild weather and some rain showers. But on this May day, bone-dry African air has put the brakes on the cool Atlantic winds: it's thirty degrees in the shade, perhaps forty degrees in the midday sun and almost fifty degrees in the heat build-up in front of shimmering rock faces. And this is supposed to be a perfect cycling area? Perhaps the best on the Spanish mainland? Yes! The area around the small town of Ronda, where capricious little roads lead to karstified mountain ranges, lakes and pretty villages, fulfils all the criteria of a first-class area.
