The Veneto region (Italian: Veneto) is located in the north-east of Italy, between the Adriatic Sea and the southern Dolomites. Veneto borders Trentino-Alto Adige to the north/north-west and Friuli-Venezia Giulia to the east. The main town of the same name is located in the Piave Valley, where the river valley leading south out of the Dolomites widens considerably and makes a striking turn to the west. It is not until the town of Feltre that the Piave turns south again and breaks through the last mountain range into the Po Valley. Tour 2 leads into neighbouring Friuli to the east, past the Lago di Santa Croce, which is popular with surfers and kitesurfers due to its thermal winds.
Belluno lies 390 metres above sea level, the highest point of our tours, the Passo Duran, at 1,605 metres. Most of the roads run at moderate altitudes of between 700 and 1,300 metres. However, the area should not be underestimated, as the climbs are numerous and our suggested tours are long. In addition, there are also a number of tough climbs, for example at Passo Praderadego. Every extra tooth on the rescue sprocket is welcome there. Generally speaking, the quality of Italian roads varies: Tyres with a width of 25 or better 28 millimetres improve riding comfort. You can't rely on conscientious signposting either, which is why a GPS device with track navigation is a great help.
